India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights: West Indies managed to last the entire day and took a major step in their quest to avoid defeat.

India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights: Kirk McKenzie led the way as the West Indies managed to get off to a more positive start on Day 3 than they did in the last session of Day 2. The debutant had taken his tally to 32 off 57 when he became Mukesh Kumar's maiden international wicket. As the Indians were celebrating, rains started belting down on the ground and forced a pause in play. While it initially looked like it was only a passing shower, the rains kept coming on and off and eventually, Lunch was taken early. West Indies were 117/2, trail India by 321 runs. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell not long after resumption after having scored 75 in 235 balls. West Indies continued with their slow run rate for the rest of the day and India were made to work hard for their wickets. They have got a couple more thus far, both falling to Jadeja. Mohammed Siraj got his first wicket upon which rain returned to put a break in proceedings in the third session. Once it resumed, play wasn't possible for long even after Rohit Sharma agreed to bowl only spinners and the West Indies ended the day 229/5 trailing India by 209 runs.

India vs West Indies live score 2nd Test Day 3: STUMPS! West Indies 229/5, trail India by 209 runs

The umpires come together after Jadeja's over and informs Rohit that it won't be possible to have any more play today after all. West Indies would certainly be the happier of the two sides, they have made a significant step in avoiding defeat by keeping India in the field all day long and still having five wickets in hand at the end of it. They would have liked to avoid the follow-on today for sure and maybe get one of their partnerships to go past the three-figure mark in terms of balls. But all in all, it has been impressive showing from a team who were not just comprehensively outplayed in the previous match, but also have the ghosts of legends past hanging over them every time they play Test cricket and face the reality that they are no longer the force they used to be. Those legends would be quite happy with the kind of determination and spine shown by their batters today.

IND vs WI 2nd Test live score: Jadeja handed the ball

It looks like Rohit has been forced to bring the spinners on because of the light. He had a long conversation with the umpires during the drinks break. Was given a choice to either go off or continue the remaining minutes with his spinners. He goes for the spinners.

IND vs WI 2nd Test Day 3 live score: West Indies 228/5 in 107 overs

Big appeal for LBW against Athanaze off the last ball of that over bowled by Mukesh Kumar. That did jag back a long way and replays show that the umpire's call would have been held up. Rohit Sharma had indicated that he feels the impact on the pads was too high up and that is what was shown in the replay as well.

IND vs WI Live score 2nd Test Day 3: FOUR! What a shot from Athanaze

Mukesh goes slightly wide of off and back of a length, Athanaze is all class and timing as he cuts it to deep third man.

IND vs WI 2nd Test live score: FOUR! Holder gets one away

Pitched up by Siraj on off stump, not quite a half volley but it is enough for Holder to drive past deep point. Holder will look to score whenever he gets a chance. West Indies have now scored 219 runs and trail by 219 runs as well.

Parents day

NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY

National Parents’ Day honors all parents on the fourth Sunday in July. No matter where our parents may be, this day serves to celebrate their important role in our lives.

#NationalParentsDay

In May we celebrated mothers, and in June we celebrated fathers.  It follows that in July we can bring all our parents together and show them some appreciation all at once.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY

Spend some time with your parents or visit someone who was like a parent to you. For those with small children, give yourself a pat on the back. Set the laundry aside and go to the park. Find a moment alone with each of your children and show them how glad you are to be their parent. Post on social media using #NationalParentsDay and encourage others to celebrate the day.

NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY HISTORY

President Bill Clinton established National Parents’ Day in 1994 when he signed Congressional Resolution (36 U.S.C. § 135) into law. The  resolution recognized the “…uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.” Republican Senator Trent Lott introduced the bill.

Where would we be without our parents, the people who loved us even before we were born? They do so much for us every day of our young lives and the love doesn’t stop once we’re adults. That’s why it’s good to honor them on their special day, National Parents’ Day July 23, celebrated on the fourth Sunday in July.
While Mother’s and Father’s days were first officially celebrated in the early 1900s, (and National Grandpa Day is already approaching its 40 year  anniversary); National Parents’ Day wasn’t established until 1994.  That’s when President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in bringing up their children.” Well said!

Chandrayan 3 launch

Chandrayan 3 launch

India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), began the launch of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission to explore the Moon on July 14, 2023, by making a soft landing on the natural satellite of Earth. Building upon the success of its predecessors, Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, the third lunar mission is set to push the boundaries of space discovery and innovation.

The Vikram lander of the mission is planned to soft-land on the surface of the South Pole region of the Moon on August 23 at 5.47 p.m., according to S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Mr. Somanath also said that the space agency has incorporated major improvements in the lander for the upcoming mission. This includes stronger ‘legs’ for the lander, the ability to withstand a higher descending velocity and a reduction in the number of engines from five to four. ‘‘We have also increased the quantity of the propellant, and solar panels cover a larger area. New sensors also have been added,’‘ he said.

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It consists of Lander and Rover configuration. It will be launched by LVM3 from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration till 100 km lunar orbit. The propulsion module has Spectro-polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload to study the spectral and Polari metric measurements of Earth from the lunar orbit.

Lander payloads: Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature; Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) for measuring the seismicity around the landing site; Langmuir Probe (LP) to estimate the plasma density and its variations. A passive Laser Retroreflector Array from NASA is accommodated for lunar laser ranging studies.

Rover payloads: Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) for deriving the elemental composition in the vicinity of landing site.Chandrayaan-3 consists of an indigenous Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM) and a Rover with an objective of developing a

nd demonstrating new technologies required for Inter planetary missions. The Lander will have the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the Rover which will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility. The Lander and the Rover have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface. The main function of PM is to carry the LM from launch vehicle injection till final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate the LM from PM. Apart from this, the Propulsion Module also has one scientific payload as a value addition which will be operated post separation of Lander Module. The launcher identified for Chandrayaan-3 is GSLV-Mk3 which will place the integrated module in an Elliptic Parking Orbit (EPO) of size ~170 x 36500 km.

The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 are:

  1. To demonstrate Safe and Soft Landing on Lunar Surface
  2. To demonstrate Rover roving on the moon and
  3. To conduct in-situ scientific experiments.

To achieve the mission objectives, several advanced technologies are present in Lander such as,

  1. Altimeters: Laser & RF based Altimeters
  2. Velocimeters: Laser Doppler Velocimeter & Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera
  3. Inertial Measurement: Laser Gyro based Inertial referencing and Accelerometer package
  4. Propulsion System: 800N Throttleable Liquid Engines, 58N attitude thrusters & Throttleable Engine Control Electronics
  5. Navigation, Guidance & Control (NGC): Powered Descent Trajectory design and associate software elements
  6. Hazard Detection and Avoidance: Lander Hazard Detection & Avoidance Camera and Processing Algorithm
  7. Landing Leg Mechanism.
